La Federation Franco-Americaine du New York

La Federation Franco-Americaine du New York was established in the Capital District of New York State in February of 1982 as the result of increased awareness of the importance of the French contribution to the history and culture of the region.

After a course - offered in 1981 in the city of Cohoes, (once an industrial center, still extensively populated by Franco-Americans) and sponsored by the Capital District Humanities Program (of the State University of New York at Albany) - class members enthusiastically decided to continue meeting to find new ways in which to serve the contemporary Franco-American population now dispersed throughout the region. The organization reflects an appreciation of ethnic roots coupled with a pride in being American. It joins together with other organizations in NewYork State, the Northeast, and in the United States and Canada, to maintain a French presence in North America.

La Federation seeks to develop ethnic pride through increased knowledge of the historical significance of the French presence in North America, and seeks partnership with other ethnic groups in maintenance of the ethnic diversity of this region.

La Federation's enlarged community concept inevitably encompasses "le Quebec" to which members of go again and again to study, explore, relax and to be entertained; then to return home again to share with members, friends and the community as added dimension to Franco-American cultural life.

La Federation Franco-Americaine du New York invites you to join in a new and exciting partnership with your community. Seize this opportunity to form new friendships and gain the personal satisfaction and pride which comes with rich cultural diversity.
